Curriculum in Action:

In terms of the pacing in the unit, this video was taken during the second week of this school year. The 8th graders had just finished reading chapter 5 of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. The lesson spanned over a 90 minute block. During the lesson, the students worked on correctly using textual evidence to support their claim, understanding allusions in literature, and finding the theme of the “Nothing Gold Can Stay” poem by Robert Frost. I am happy to provide supplemental documents to the lesson, if needed. The video also has a few testimonies from students and a teacher on what it is like to be taught by Mrs. Goral and what it is like to work with me. I hope that this video helps to give you a picture of how my classroom is run and how I develop relationships with my colleagues.

TESTIMONIALS

"Working with Katie Goral allowed me to learn the skills and tools needed to build curriculums for my classes for the rest of my career. As a first year Spanish teacher I was having trouble successfully planning the path in which I wanted to teach my students. With her help I was able to literally build a curriculum for 3 grades for the entire 2020-2021 school year! She made the building process so easy I am now confident that I will be able to do the same no matter what grade level I teach.

She also successfully prepared me for a triumphant Praxis score. With English as a second language, she helped me learn the tricks needed to pass a Praxis exam with flying colors and I am now ready to apply the same strategies taught by her to other  exams I am required to take.

Having Katie as a mentor and as a tutor not only helped me with my professional development, but she also helped me develop even more the most important value a human being should always have. The value of confidence."

Daniela Bentacourt, LCCS, 6-8th Spanish Teacher
